Williams Gallery West

is proud to announce our premiere opening in Oakhurst, California featuring

The Art of Richard and Frances Powell

The show was a rousing success! A brief spark of creativity at the geographic center of California!  Thanks to the Annual Oakhurst Peddler's Fair we had hundreds of visitors! In addition to the Powell's work, artwork on display consisted of pastels and lithographs by Claudia Nolin, and selected work from the galleries permanent collection, including Pin-up Art of the 1950s, historical prints, and a selection of California artists including Tom Killion, Andrea Rich, and Jane Gyer.

"Gab"

Frankie's work is bold and confident.  She works in a variety of media, always experimenting, and striving to integrate her art with her life.  "Gab" is poignant and whimsical.  Although the subject is banal, the execution is magical, bringing to life the joyous essence of the moment.

  "This is not a raygun"

In "This is not a raygun" Rich combines Pop Culture, bold design, and playful, vibrant color.  Richard is prolific and determined in his work.  He works in traditional media, ( in this case acrylic ) and also works as an illustrator, cartoonist, and computer artist.  His images cry out "LOOK AT ME!", and their demands are gladly met due to their practiced and delightful execution.  The influence of underground graphic artists like R. Crumb and Don Martin can be seem in Rich's work, as well as mainstream fine art influences like the surreal images of Magritte.
