Student Work

Rungsak Dokbua

Chaiwut Ruamrudeekool

The CMU printmaking program includes facilities for silkscreen, monoprint, etching, woodblock printing, and lithography.  The work created by the student body is diverse and creative, influenced by both movements in Western modern art, and the rich cultural traditions of Thailand.

Our translator spoke excellent English as well as her native Thai.  Like most of the Thai people, her polite and generous nature made working with her a great pleasure.

CMU Graduate Piyanuch Punyorak had just completed a stunning series of serigraphs of clouds and sky, sensitive images of the divine beauty of nature with an impressionistic flare.

Student Panu creates both woodblock and colligraphic prints.  Panu's works combine a well developed sense of design with a vivid imagination.  This graphically intense image of Chiang Mai was rendered from memory.

S. Noppakloa creates emotive woodblock prints inspired by the tropical forests near her home.  Her works combine an intuitive graphic style with a subtle sense of humor.  Tiny creatures peek out from among the trees, hinting at the variety of life hidden in the jungle.

5th year student Tawee Sareevas works as an etcher and lithographer. His projects in 2000 included a series focused on the fundamental nature of water and its relationship to mankind; and his "TV of Life" series, brooding abstractions inspired by technology and modern social issues.

3rd year student Weerachai Jarnrat created this vibrant woodblock print entitled "Trees".  The strong composition, intense color,  and active mark make this piece particularly striking. Like many of the students at CMU, Weerachai's work is strongly influenced by the beauty of nature.
