WHAT:
Three artist, three unique techniques and three views of Princeton as
interpreted by Berger, Sakson and Schmeiser.
Among the scenes depicted are Nassau Hall, Princeton University Archway, Nassau Street, the Albert
Einstien house, the Garden Theatre, Morvan and the Nassau Club
MICHAEL BERGER grew up near New York City. He studied chemistry at Cornell
University and went on to obtain a doctorate in chemistry from Harvard
University in 1972. Joining Polaroid Corporation in 1976, he used his technical
expertise in the photographic field and holds ten patents. As one of the
inventors of Polaroid Corporation's 35 mm instant slide film, he has had
experience in blending art and science to create new imaging systems. For years
Berger has used cameras and darkroom techniques to achieve impressionistic
images, and he added the computer to his palette five years ago to achieve a new
range of expression. Berger exhibits and lectures internationally on his art. He
has recently completed a series of prints depicting scenes of Princeton.
JÖRG
SCHMEISSER
was born in Stolp, Pomerania in 1942, Schmeisser
attended art school in Hamburg,
Germany, and took his post-graduate
work at the Fine Arts University of Kyoto, Japan. He moved to Canberra,
Australia in 1978 to head
the Printmaking Workshop of the Australian National University, Canberra
School of Art. His
work has been shown in more than 130 solo exhibitions world-wide and is
represented in major private and public collections such as the Princeton
University Graphic Arts Collection; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; National
Gallery of Australia; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris and the Kunsthalle, Hamburg.
ROBERT
SAKSON,
one of New Jersey’s most accomplished watercolorists, is a Fellow of the
American Watercolor Society and New Jersey Watercolor Society. Sakson has won
major watercolor awards every year since 1970 and has exhibited extensively
throughout the United States. The paintings of ‘Historic Princeton’ shown in
the current exhibit reflect the artist’s lifelong interest in and love of the
history of the buildings and historic landmarks in his native state.
