We rented the space in as-is condition, and there was a lot of work to
be done before we could open. The room had not really changed much
through the last three tenants, first a jewelry store, then an engraver,
and then a flower shop. The place had been empty a while, and was
dark, dingy, and half painted, with bars on the windows and a toilet so
filthy flies stayed away. It was perfect! Just a little TLC
was needed to transform the space into a beautiful gallery. We
scheduled a "build-out" day for February
first, and a rag-tag gang of artists rose early that morning determined
to get the job done.
