Martinez, Taxco Mexico

silver and amethyst necklace with matching earrings

Purchased in Queretero Mexico in 1965

Absolutely fabulous Taxco silver and amethyst necklace with matching screw back earrings by Martinez.  Necklace features a two piece tube-style collar with seven linked medallions set with  amethyst crystals in dagger style settings.  Amethyst settings are hinged in order to avoid snagging, and to lay smoothly against the skin.

A classic beauty only humbled by the beauty of the woman who wears it!

Miguel Garcia Martinez was a designer commissioned by the Taxco taller owner Emma Melendez, whose silver designs sold at the Rancho Alegre Shop in the 1950s.  Miguel's designs are bold and simple, showing influences of Pre-Columbian art and often incorporating semi precious stones, abalone, and stone inlay work.
