Louise August works in many mediums including serigraphy, woodblock printing, mural painting, and oils. She is an accomplished illustrator of children's books including "The Way Meat Loves Salt", "Milk and Honey", and "Why on this Night?".   Her work is included in the collections of Yale University, Princeton University Museum of Fine Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and many other prestigious organizations. Her images are complex and full of whimsical details that add charm and interest to the work.  August often uses a controlled palette and dark outlines to enhance the emotive qualities of an image.  Overall, her work combines charm, humor, and sensitivity to create images that speak to us all on an intuitive and emotional level.

Her floral monoprints are impressionistic, brightly colored, and full of energy. This rare printing technique is accomplished by painting on glass, placing a sheet of rice paper on the wet paint, and then applying pressure with a printing press. The image is then worked further with a brush to add final flourishes and details.
