This card is a lithographic reproduction of a hand colored photograph. The card portrays a massive hedge of California Hydrangea.  At the turn of the century California was portrayed to the rest of the nation as a land of plenty, where flowers bloomed year round and fruit and vegetables grew to gigantic size.  The card is postmarked Oct 31, 1913, with 1 cent (side view ) Ben Franklin stamp.  The card is addressed to Mrs. Thomas Shaunahan, Lawrence, Mass.  Message field is filled, amd card is signed  John and Etta".
