Antique Chinese jade dragon belt hook. Beautiful pale celadon green color and elegant rounded form. Purchased in San Francisco in 1971 Seller noted as "Lee".  Hardwood stand included.

Ornamental jade hooks typically consist of a body with a hook on one end and a shafted button on the back side of the base end.  This button could be inserted into a button hole or into a slit in a strap or belt.  The hook, often shaped in t he form of the head of a real or mythological beast, was connected to a loop on the opposite side.  Belt hooks were used on trousers, cloaks, and on belts for suspending weapons.
