Circa 1800 Ch'ing Dynasty

Antique Chinese nephrite jade dragon belt hook. (daigou). Beautiful celadon green color and elegant rounded form. Purchased in San Francisco in 1971 Seller noted as "Lee".  Hardwood stand included.

Ornamental jade hooks typically consist of a body with a hook on one end and a short-shanked button on the back side of the base end.  This button could be inserted into a button hole or into a slit in a strap or belt.  The hook, often shaped in the form of the head of a real or mythological beast, was connected to a loop on the opposite side. Belt hooks were used on trousers, cloaks, and on belts for suspending weapons.
