Chancay pottery is recognized by simple black-on-white geometric motifs. Common forms include small semi-spherical bowls and tall, ovoid vessels.  Pieces are typically matte and unburnished.  Chancay funerary pottery often features anthropomorphic designs such as faces, ears, or hands.  Funerary objects found in ancient tombs provide a unique opportunity to examine the past, often illustrating clothing styles, lifestyles, and other details of day to day life.  Pottery from tombs often embody cultural and spiritual values of the people that created them.
