Lake Patzcuaro Fishing Scene

 $1500.00

Tarascan Indian Embroidery

  32w x 31h - Framed

  Collected in 1993

This hand woven and embroidered genre scene represents the Tarascan Indians of Michoacan fishing in Lake Patzcuaro.  The fishermen traditionally fished the lake in dugout canoes, using wing-like butterfly nets to catch White Fish, a local freshwater delicacy since pre-Columbian times. This  detail shows off the piece's slightly rough, but meticulous hand embroidery work.  A piece this size takes about 2 months to create.
