"Melancholy"

Acrylic on Board

circa 1990

 20" wide x 16" high

PRICE $1200

"Melancholy" depicts a frontier woman in repose on her bed.  While the painting falls into the category of a Putt bordello scene, the piece differs in the depiction of a seasoned courtesan or Madame, rather than a young lady of the evening, comfortable in her environment, lost in thought before a sun-filled window. The subject rests briefly against the deep red headboard, tired yet confident and exuding an inner strength, perhaps contemplating the flowers on her nightstand. Lovely color and detail.
