Deloris Jane Gallagher was noted for her landscape paintings of the San Francisco Bay Peninsula.  In 1996 Gallagher published a book of her artwork entitled "California in Solitude and Silence".  She was an active member of the Portola Valley Art Gallery, and was the founder of the Cultural Arts Committee of Portola Valley.   Ms. Gallagher donated her art for environmental causes, such as the Portola Valley Millennium Open Space Campaign and the Committee for Green Foothills, for which she served on the board.    She belonged to the Menlo Park Water Color Society, the Santa Clara Valley Water Color Society, the International Artists Society, and the Society of Western Artists.

"...I purposely omit all signs of civilization in my paintings. This is not a one-woman crusade to obliterate the inexorable encroachment of man. It is just that the quiet untouched lands are what appeal to me and what I want to capture and share. I hope it will make people aware of how fast these spaces are disappearing, act as a wakeup call, and make them realize that now is the time to save these lands for future generations. "
