SOLD

19th century Imperial Russian or German artillery officer's saber

Brass hilt with brass D form knuckle bow and pierced quillon. Carved black antler handle. Brass sheath with applied leather cover.  32" curved blade with German maker's mark E & F Horster / Solingen. Blade in very good condition. Sheath leather has some scuffing here and there and minor wear overall. Handle has a few chips where it attaches to brass near front of guard.

Beautiful etched and blued blade with intricate floral design. Details include two officers on horseback, artillery caisson with six horses towing a cannon,  and artillery badge with cannon and ramrods on opposite side. Owner's notes indicate the sword to be a Russian Imperial artillery officer's sword. E&F Horster did make swords for the Russian military, but it is possible the sword could be an Imperial German sword.
