Philippine Moro Kampilan beheading sword circa 1900 Most likely from the Lake Lanao region on Mendanao. Collected in 1938. Nicely carved wooden handle with rattan binding. Steel blade is solid, with moderate surface rust. Rattan binding in good condition. overall length 38" - handle length including guard 9 1/2" blade width at widest point 1 13/16" |

Handle is elaborately carved with a serpent head design and spiraling scrollwork along the bottom and interior of the "jaws". There is an approx 3" horizontal drying crack (visible in the photo) that runs from above the "eye" to the edge of the rattan binding. Upper edge of blade is serrated, and perforated with eleven small round holes. |
