Teotihuacan style Amethyst figure

circa 1950

Collected in Mexico in 1965.

Unusual carved Amethyst standing figure with quilted clothing, cap, and arms folded at waist.  Stone is lovely with deep violet hues.  The figure seems to cross styles, with Olmec features, Teotihuacan style pose and Maya-like armor.  All told this is a very interesting carving using a non-traditional material.
